Tow Truck Parade a Hit with Special Needs Children
for Wreckers on Thursday, January 17, 2013 by Clay TaylorMotorists in Tallahassee, Florida might have been surprised to see a procession of tow trucks with lights, sirens and Christmas music rolling through town this past December. For the holiday season, Tallahassee towing operators got into the Christmas spirit by organizing Tallahassee’s first annual “Trucks for Tots” parade. Thirteen local towing companies participated in the parade to support special needs children and veterans in the area.
More than twenty trucks were decorated with lights, garland, wreaths and ribbons, vying to be crowned “Most Christmas Spirit” in the parade. The children lined the street oohing and ahhing at the lights and sirens, waiting to see the highlight of the parade – Santa Claus! The guest of honor did not disappoint, appearing on his sleigh and eight reindeer on the back of a flatbed truck. Santa was able to stop by two local special needs schools, where he handed out more than 300 toys, along with 100 donated packages of blankets and food for local veterans.
I was able to talk with Santa after the event, and although he wanted the conversation to remain off the record he did thank all of the local tow operators for their time, effort, and donations that helped brighten the year of some very special children!
