NMVTIS ID Confirmation Now Available!

for Auto Dealers, Insurance, Mechanic / Body Shop, Salvage and Wreckers

As more and more businesses begin reporting their junk, salvage, and total loss information , many states and businesses now require proof that you are signed up to report to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) through an approved data consolidator. In response, ADD has created a confirmation document that will provide this proof.

DOJ Releases NMVTIS Penalty Considerations

for Auto Dealers, Insurance, Mechanic / Body Shop, Salvage and Wreckers

The Department of Justice has published enforcement information regarding how the NMVTIS penalty decision process.Under the NMVTIS regulations, failure to report junk, salvage and total loss vehicles as required may result in assessment of a civil penalty of $1,000 per violation. The Department has previously indicated that “DOJ is not obligated to perform a site visit or provide additional time to provide data or correct reporting deficiency before imposing any penalty.

Florida dealers may have received an advisory from the DHSMV regarding a $0.50 inquiry fee for EFS and ETR system users (Florida’s Electronic Temporary Registration and Electronic Filing Systems). The fee is charged on inquiries that do not result in the issuance of a title or registration (including temporary tags and transfers).

ADD selected UPS as its shipping vendor based upon its history of reliable and cost-effective service. We know when we ship the tag stock out that it will arrive the next day in good condition, at an affordable cost.

![](https://wwwa.add123.com/sites/default/files/CA warning- sm.png) California has passed a law that will require all auto dealers licensed in the state of California to obtain a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) vehicle history report for every used vehicle offered for retail sale. The law, which goes into effect in July 2012, also requires dealers to affix a NMVTIS warning sticker to the vehicle if the NMVTIS vehicle history report indicates that the vehicle has a title brand or a junk or salvage history.

DOJ Targets Non-Reporting Businesses with NMVTIS Compliance Mailing

The Department of Justice mailed out [thousands of letters](https://www.add123.com/sites/default/files/DOJ-enforcement- OCT2011.pdf) to business owners who are not yet compliant with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) salvage reporting requirements. The letter makes clear that all businesses handling five or more junk or salvage vehicles per year must reported specific information about those vehicles to the national database, and enforcement is ongoing .
