As a result of the recent flooding in Louisiana, the timely reporting of flood-damaged vehicles to NMVTIS will be very important for the businesses that handle the influx of water logged cars. While there is not yet a count of cars destroyed or damaged, estimates put the numbers at least in the five-figure range.

Auto Data Direct, Inc. (ADD) is the authorized agent for scrap metal processors, secondary metal recyclers, auto recyclers, dismantlers, and used motor vehicle parts dealers in Tennessee to fulfill their state regulations under T.C.A. 55-3-202 (Public Chapter 466) which went into effect July 1, 2016. Based on this new statute, the affected businesses will need to report their purchases of salvage vehicles, within 24 hours of purchase, electronically through ADD.

The deadline for mandatory Electronic Lien & Title (ELT) in North Carolina was July 1, 2016 and Auto Data Direct has you covered with all ELT needs and requirements! Any business that finances vehicles, vessels or mobile homes in the state of North Carolina will be required to obtain an ELT number to process titles.

Auto Data Direct began its integrated services with Frazer DMS by offering NMVTIS title check services to Frazer customers nationwide. Now with the release of the modernized Electronic Filing System (EFS) and Electronic Temporary Registration (ETR) platform, ADD is excited to offer customers access to these additional services from within the Frazer system.

This year’s NIADA convention was huge for the ADD dealer family! Lisette Mariner, director of the Florida Independent Automobile Dealers Association (FIADA) was named the National State Executive of the Year! Lisette has an extensive association management background and since becoming Executive Director of the FIADA in June 2011, adding her level of association management expertise, Lisette has helped to strengthen an already great association.

It’s been a long time coming but both modernized ETR and new EFS are now available to ADDTag customers! Every day more and more ADDTag customers are migrating over to the new user-friendly ETR interface, with many are choosing to also become a new EFS participant. The old ETR system will be shut off by the DMV this coming September, meaning that by August 30, 2016 all ETR users will need to be actively participating in the new system.

For those in the salvage industry, it seems that information on enforcement of NMVTIS requirements is slow in coming and low-key when it is released. As most of you know, I have been at conferences and tradeshows all around the country since the NMVTIS program started in March of 2009. I have tried to help keep the affected industry members informed of activities and requirements pertinent to their business, and tried to explain why the information is needed and how it is being used.

Starting July 1st the state of Alabama is updating their towing regulations, requiring tow companies that handle abandoned vehicles to report the vehicle as “unclaimed” to the Department of Revenue (DOR). This report must be submitted within 5 calendar days after the vehicle has been determined as unclaimed, or storage fees may not be assessed.

In Connecticut, the DMV has taken a different approach to processing the ABA certificates and now requires proof of notice to out of state vehicle owners and lienholders.
